HOW TO MAKE A GOOD IMPRESSION ON A JOB INTERVIEW

Getting a job has always been a stressful time. However, with the economy as it is today, it's more difficult than ever before. Tons of people are applying for the same job so you need to put on the best dress, best smile, best attitude that you can conjure up and pray that you make the best impression. These may seem like basics, but sometimes, the most simple things are the things that are overlooked...and sadly, the things that will lose your chance of closing the deal.

First, be on time. The one message you want to deliver is that you are reliable. If you're late, you're certainly not reliable! Make sure you know how to get to your interview even if you have to do some practice runs before the day arrives. Check traffic reports the day of so you can plan a new route if necessary. Arrive 10 minutes early so you can gather your senses and relax. This will help you appear together.

Second, smile and present with a firm (not painful) handshake. Both of these actions give the appearance of confidence. It also gives the impression that you are interested in the interviewer and are ready for the challenge to come.

Third, maintain eye contact. Now, this doesn't mean try to intimidate your interviewer. However, making eye contact while questions are being asked and answered gives the impression you can be trusted. Interviewers might feel that you have something to hide or you're not being honest if looking away.

Fourth, know the company you are interviewing with. Ask questions about the company and share what you like most about the job you are interviewing for. This gives the impression that you really want the job. With all the people interviewing for the same job as you, you can increase your chances by showing a strong desire for the job and interest in the company.

Fifth and final, after the interview, thank your interviewer for their time and let them know you are looking forward to hearing from them. This will give the impression that you respect your interviewers time. When you get home, send a thank you note as follow up. This will help your interviewer remember you. The last thing you want after all your efforts is to be forgotten in the masses.

Jobs are a rare commodity right now so treat it like the treasure it is and you can be the winning recipient of a fabulous job!  Good Luck!
